Earier this week, we announced the launch of Milton's Smart Watchlist, a feature that lets you get the most relevant and informative news and analytics on the stocks you care about, in addition to real-time prices. In this post, we'll show you how to use this new feature to stay informed on your favorite stocks.
Milton's Smart Watchlist is designed to be an easy-to-use, intuitive tool for you to keep up to date on stocks you care about. It allows you to keep track of your stocks in a single location where you can find the most important news for those stocks, while also benefiting from Milton's AI-driven forecasts on over 1,000 stocks. Our hope is the Smart Watchlist will help you stay informed of the latest happenings on stocks you care about, while also helping you analyze what's important, and giving you context about a stock relative to peers and the broader market.
But in order to realize its benefits, you'll have to start using the Smart Watchlist first. Login to Milton to start this process.
Login To Milton: It Takes Just One Click!
To take advantage of the Smart Watchlist, you'll first have to login to your account. This is as simple as clicking the orange "Login" button at the top right of the Milton homepage. When you do, a simple screen like the image below will appear, and you can sign in with existing social accounts (LinkedIn, Google, Facebook).
All you have to do is click the button for the account you want to login with. If you're not already logged in to that site, you'll be asked to login there, then you'll be asked to confirm your login on our site, and that's it, you're all set, no extra usernames or passwords to remember.
Getting Started With The Watchlist
When you first login, your homepage will contain an empty screen with a prompt to add your first stock to your Smart Watchlist, much like the image below.
To get started, simply start typing the ticker or name of the first stock you want to watch into the search bar. As you type, you'll see a list of matching stocks from Milton's investable universe, like in the image below. To add a stock to your list, simply select that stock from the drop-down list that you see.
You can add as many stocks as you want to your list. Once you've added a few, your default Smart Watchlist page will update, and you'll start to see several new pieces of information show up on the screen, like in the image below.
The watchlist will have several different areas, each of which we describe below.
Your List of Tickers
On the left side of the screen, you'll see the actual stocks in your watchlist itself. In addition to real-time stock prices, the list contains a mini-graph of the latest day's price, and a recap of the latest price and the latest change in price from the previous day. You can select any stock in the list to get news, Milton's View, or company information for that stock in the main section of the screen.
Financial News Powered by AI
By default, the first tab in the main screen will contain the latest and most relevant news from the Milton's reading list. When you first load the screen, Milton displays news for the first stock in your watchlist, but you can always update that by selecting another stock in your list.
In the news feed, Milton surfaces what it considers to be the most important recent articles, news stories, and documents for the stocks on your list. For each article, Milton also provides a sentiment score, indicating how positive or negative Milton thinks that article is for the stock you've selected. Milton also summarizes all articles for you automatically so you can get a quick idea of what you can expect to read if you click on the article itself.
In the image below, Milton is displaying the most important news for Abiomed (ticker: ABMD), the first stock in the watchlist above.
View Milton's Forecasts Across Over 1,000 Stocks
The next tab in the main screen allows you to see Milton's scores and rankings in the future for the selected stock.
Milton ranks and scores over a thousand stocks based on their expected total return over several different time horizons in the future. By default, Milton's View provides the score and rank for one year in the future, but you can toggle between multiple different, which currently includes various points between 3 months and 3 years in the future.
In addition to the current score and ranking, you can see what Milton's score and rankings were 30 days prior, and you can also see what the industry averages are, so you can analyze how the stock compares to peers.
Speaking of peers, the final section in Milton's view allows you to compare your selected stock against any other stock in Milton's investable universe. All you need to do is type in the ticker for the stock you want to compare, and you'll see a visualization of both stocks on a normal distribution chart, indicating how Milton thinks each will perform.
The image below shows Milton's current forecast for Abiomed, along with a comparison of Milton's forecast for Abiomed compared to CVS over for the following one-year.
Calculating Milton's Score
Milton's score, which ranges from 0 to 100, is a metric that shows you how positive or negative Milton is on a particular stock over a particular time horizon. The lower the score, the more negative Milton's outlook, and the higher the score, the more positive Milton's outlook is, as depicted in the image below.
The calculation of Milton's score itself relies on our AI system, which analyzes and forecasts the performance of stocks using the latest techniques in natural language processing and machine learning over millions of different data points, both quantitative and textual. After Milton creates a forecast for a particular stock, it ranks that stock against all the others for which it has a score, and that ranking ultimately determines the score that Milton gives to any particular stock.
On the final tab in the main screen, you'll get a recap of the stock's performance in the most recent trading day, along with basic information like its sector and a description of the company's business, as shown in the image below.
Smart Watchlist Stats
Finally, at the top of your Smart Watchlist, you'll see a stats panel that shows you some high level stats about the stocks in your watchlist, including the total number of stocks in your Smart Watchlist, Milton's average score across all your Smart Watchlist stocks over time, and the breakdown of sectors for the stocks in your Smart Watchlist.
